The sports spectator economy has long been considered one of the fastest growing industries, attracting fans and corporate sponsors. Slot machines are easy to play and the stakes can be low, yet some of the biggest casino wins in history have come from slots. The introduction of progressive jackpots meant that the amount a player could win in a single spin increased exponentially. As a result, players at both online and land-based casinos have won slot jackpots that run into the millions.

Progressive jackpots increase every time a slot game is played, and no one wins. A portion of the money from each spin is put into a pot that is set aside as the jackpot. Upon winning, the jackpot resets to a fixed amount, and gradually increases again. Multiple machines can be combined to create larger and faster-growing jackpots, so when no one wins for a while, the total can get crazy.

The most recent jackpot win reported was $11.8 million.
